The Vollbrecht Rotary Chalk Walk Committee is issuing a call for artists to paint patriotic images with chalk at the annual Field of Honor scheduled for Nov. 9-16 at Town Square Park.

2024 marks the 13th year for the Chalk Walk, which was organized by the late Rotarian Al Vollbrecht to pay further tribute to the personal heroes honored by the Field.  The Chalk Walk has been renamed to honor Vollbrecht, who died in late 2020.

Now known as the Vollbrecht Rotary Chalk Walk, images are painted on the wide sidewalk that rings the display of more than 2,400 flags.

Vollbrecht’s organization of the walk is being assumed by the Rotary Club of Temecula Valley New Generations.  “Members of New Gen Rotary are excited to be part of this amazing display and are looking forward to a great turn out this year,” said Jennifer Rasmussen, New Gen Community Services Chair.

Chalk artists are scheduled to start painting the morning of November 9 and will finish up on November 10, 2024, with judging to follow.  The public is invited to watch these talents at work.

There is no entry fee for artists, and cash prizes are awarded in different categories.

Artists can choose spaces in multiple sizes for their work.  This event is open to all high school age and older who have the ability to draw.

Chalk suitable for this kind of painting will be provided.

Applications are being accepted through Oct. 15 and must include a sketch of the art planned or a description of what is to be painted.
